Gervis Myles

Gervis Myles is a passionate man. He brings that passion, that fire and desire, to everything he does. From his “Day Jobs” in the Milwaukee County Sheriffs Dept K-9 Unit, as a Wisconsin Conservation Warden and as a Milwaukee County Zoo Keeper as well as his music.

Gervis is an extremely talented vocalist/guitarist and songwriter. Gospel, Blues, Jazz, Soul, R&B, Country and Pop music are the colors on the palette from which he creates his art. Gervis feels his talent is a gift and that it is his duty, his obligation to use that talent to lift people’s spirits and bring joy to people’s lives.

Gervis has been surrounded by music ever since he was born. His parents owned and operated The Great Western Liquor Store and Tavern. The juke box was filled with all kinds of music great music and Gervis remembers dropping coins in the slot and selecting his favorite songs and singing along to them. One of his fondest childhood memories is of his sitting with his grandfather and listening to Howlin’ Wolf records hearing that haunting voice. Gervis cites the mighty Wolf as a major influence. He was also influenced by his father’s collection of popular crooners of the day as well as the Pop sounds he heard on the radio.

At age 37, with encouragement from his mother and wife, Gervis joined The Milwaukee Jubilee Singers Gospel Choir and sang in public for the first time. He spent a few years in the choirs before he decided to step out and perform at small social functions and jam sessions.

On a family trip’s down to Mississippi Gervis was introduced to Blues legends like Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, T-Model Ford and Honeyboy Edwards. On another one of these trips his aunt Rose introduced him to B. B. King. He had the great honor and pleasure of sitting and being able to talk with B. B. who told Gervis “Always Do Your Best, Not Nobody Else’ Best, But Your Best” words that Gervis lives by each and every day. “What drew me to the blues and soul music is yhat it is so real, my mother loved the blues and that’s a big part of it too. That’s my way of giving back to her.”

Since then Gervis has gone on to learn how to play guitar taking lessons at The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. Gervis has performed w/The Idle Minds, Jim Liban, Billy Flynn, The Blues Disciples, Big Al Dorn, Ivy Ford, Cameron Webb, The Mighty Ms. Erica, The Paul Stilin Group, Eric McFadden and Wally Ingram.
